UPDATE: Just received mail from SSA.

In brief, the letter states "Our records indicate that Social Security Number xxx-xxx-xxxx is assigned to xxxxxx, xxxxxxx, xxxxx

"Your social security card is the official verification of your social security number. This printout does not verify your right to work in the United States."

I'm not sure if this letter is the replacement for an actual card. The sentence that concerns me is, "This printout does not verify your right to work in the United States." Are cards still being issued, or do I need to wait for a card to arrive? Just showing this printout to the TX DMV may not be enough. Of course, I could contact DMV, but it's the weekend and I thought this info could benefit the edification of readers on this thread. What do y'all think?

As people become citizens by birth, or other legal means, SS cards continue to be issued. That is nothing new. IMO, they are telling you the 'printout' itself does not verify your right...since the card itself is the official verification of your SS number; not the printout.

Thanks for the info, Mr. Moderator. One would think the printout should be sufficient for the DMV, since it clearly states the ss# is assigned to me. But that's too easy. The waiting game resumes and time is moving on...[emoticon]

I get why they need all of that information for a Real ID/Drivers License so I assume that either Texas does not have a non-Real ID drivers license or you did not want one.

You assume wrong. Texas has had Real ID for years, and you don't get a choice.

A positive development! I received notification from the SSA office today that I should receive my SS card in 2 weeks, if not, call them. They also retuned the documentation I included with the application. So it looks to me that everything has been okayed.

A serious mistake was caught in time by the manager of the place where I have my mail box. Someone in the SS office made an error concerning my box number. Instead of box 208 they typed 280. It would have ended up with the wrong party, who would then have access to my SS #. In addition, if he wasn’t honest I would never have known the letter had been sent. All’s well that ends well. I’m glad the manager at the mailbox store had a sharp eye! [emoticon] .

I called the SS office to be sure they had my correct address, which turned out OK. It was probably just a Typo, or the employee may have been dyslexic. [emoticon]

Excellent!
Wanna hear a laffer?
To get a disabled placard in California the person who has changed addresses must go to a DMV office and stand in line.

Good one. Here in TX you need to make an appointment. There usually isn't much of a line using this method. Since I use a wheelchair, I'd be sitting in line, although I can stand for a few minutes. [emoticon]
