My motorhome is "Permanently" registered. So, there is no annual fee. That applies to my Dodge truck, my Jeep, the trailers, and the ATVs as well.
Here, all vehicles 11 years old or older, all trailers (regardless of type or size), all motorcycles (that includes ATVs) and boats are permanently registered.
But, then I went and bought a 2014 Subaru. I'll be paying annual fees on that for a few years...

Montana is a perfect example of a SOCIALIST state. Yep. The receive $1.47 in federal fund for every dollar paid in federal taxes. Montana could not operate without help from NY, California and every other "left leaning" state. In a nutshell, they are a WELFARE state.

Check your facts. California now received $12 MORE PER PERSON FROM THE FED THAN THEY PAID the fed.

We've been in this house for 12 years. Our property taxes go up as the house appreciates in value. Anything we "save" in property taxes is over compensated for in sales tax, the cost of fuel, income tax, and a million other ways the state government can reach into our wallet.

Under Prop 13, assessment increases are capped at 2%, and the SF Bay area has exceeded that rate significantly. You'd be paying far more property tax on your house if not for prop 13.

Quote:

They are trying to pass a law taxing us for MILEAGE! We must pay for the privilege of each mile driven.

If road taxes are meant to pay for road wear, then mileage (with a weight multiplier) is a fair way to do that -- gas tax is no longer a proxy for miles driven since gas mileage differs so widely among vehicles and EV's don't buy gas at all.

There's not much point in complaining about taxes in the area that you chose to live in. No one lives in California because of its low cost of living.

If you think those taxes are going to go to roads you're delusional. I know about Prop 13. It's the only thing allowing the dwindling middle class to remain. Your attempt to justify a corrupt, bloated, wasteful, and entitled state government is a waste of time to those of us who see it for what it really is.

Teleman, before throwing a hissy fit about your CA registration fee, you should have checked to see what your neighbors are paying. If not mistaken, NV is about 2% of purchase price/value and AZ is about 1.85%. When I moved to AZ four years ago my registration fees almost doubled. I know it's fashionable for some of you in this forum to bash CA every time you have a chance, but unless registration fees have gone up considerably in the last four years, CA's fees are lower than in some other states.

Half those states with super low vehicle tax rates are welfare states, where they could not support themselves without the funds "left" states dole out to them in the form of federal funds. While they scream hatred for socialism, they, if fact, are receiving just that. They are the poster children for socialism.....

I meant the OP. Benefiting from the higher paying jobs in California while bashing it. Shelling out $60,000+ on a toy and whining about the $750 registration. And so on.

Open mouth. Insert foot. We paid 16k not 60k. Our cars are about $130, and our previous motorhome was too so you know what you can do with your ignorant comment. Did I ever use the word socialism? I think the only person using that word is you. You could benefit from the advice that it's better to keep one's mouth shut and be thought a fool rather than to open it and prove it. Step off my thread!

A) they have gone up considerably, and B) what is 2% of $16k? That's what we paid for our motorhome. Another person with foolish assumptions. Furthermore California deserves it's bashing. Have you visited San Francisco lately? People urinating, defecating, and masturbating in the street. People walking in the stores and loading up bags of merchandise and just walking out with no consequences. Homeless camps the size of small cities in some areas. It looks like a war zone. Our forests are burning up because the radical environmentalists in charge don't allow proper forest management. PG&E has paid off the past two governors and has gotten away with not improving their infrastructure and they cause at least one huge fire a year lately. I could go on and on. It has nothing to do with being fashionable. It has to do with a failed ideology that is infected half of the population of this country and wherever they hold complete power is a disaster.

As I have never used the word socialism, you should follow your own comments.

All you are doing is bashing. You have not provided any information on the fee breakdown, etc. If you really think it is out of line, then check with the DMV. Maybe they calculated on an incorrect purchase price. But you'd rather just whine about the politics.

You're a special kind of moron. This is a direct quote from you upthread.

You call it whining as if it a complaint with no merit. I'll bet when the homeless start deficating in your yard and vandalize your property you'll "whine " too.
Now please, before you further demonstrate your defective intellect GFY.

Your reading skills suggest you fit your accusation. It was jdc1 who used the word socialism not me.

No I don't whine about things. I put my energy into figuring out WHY something happens and if it is not right, correcting it. Whining is uselss.

You're the one who used the word whining. Unfortunately the vast majority of the state are left wing idiots like you. We tried to recall the dictator Newsom but even if we were to win with the numbers the fix was in. Putting energy into and figuring out why something is wrong is easy. We KNOW what is wrong. Correcting it? That isn't happening. The corruption of the power elite and the brainwashing of people like you is too far entrenched. Now I'm done wasting time with you.
