In Tallahassee this morn I was trying on foot to cross the intersection of Appalach and Capitol Circle , Three lanes all ways , plus 2 lane turning lanes . Lots of traffic. Sprinting I made it about half way across and was standing on one of the " islands " waiting for the lights to change . Traffic was moving fast except for the turning lanes . I saw an auto slowing and rolling down his window . Thinking they were going to ask a question I leaned into the slowing car ! The guy stuck a one dollar bill into my hand , nodded his head and accelerated . I now know where that I am gonna hang out a lot more .

Back when I was getting paid to tell Police where to go (not I get paid because I used to tell police where to go retired dispatcher) we had a number of folks who tried to dash across the 55MPH speed limit (normal speeds closer to 75) and I had to send troopers. to investigate. Tow trucks for the car belong to the poor smuk who hit'em. the ME with a shovel and a mop to mop up what was left of 'em and so on... Do not "Dash" across a high speed road.. It can be suicide.

From the description the OP is crossing at a light controlled intersection. When I took the test, the drivers where required to allow the person to safely cross the street. I guess somebody decided to pay instead of yield.

It is a light controlled intersection with crosswalks. It is just very busy and some drivers are not very attentive. I would probably run across (with the crossing light of course) if I had to cross there as well.

One of my Sargenets said they needed a 3rd Walk/Don't Walk light

Yup. Walk
Don't walk
RUN LIKE Blazes

I don't know if the driver got a ticket or not because all the LEO's were on foot.

Town we lived in had no signals, two stop signs, which actually meant 'slow down'.

If you lie in the middle of the road, it would take an hour before someone noticed, and then roll up beside to you and ask if you'd gotten hit by a car, then drive around you, laughing at the absurdity of that question.
