On 18 Oct at a fuel station in St. Louis County MO I discovered a bulge in one of the tires on our fifth wheel trailer. We have been members of Good Sam Raodside Assistance since 2004 so I called at 1:49 PM to get the tire changed. After answering a number of ridiculous questions the GS representative asked me, I was told they would text me when they had a tow company to change the tire.

At 2:30 I still hadn’t received a text or call so I phoned Good Sam again. The agent checked and told me they were still searching for someone to provide us service.

At 3:30 PM I still hadn’t heard from Good Sam Roadside Assistance so I started calling local companies myself. I finally found a tow company that could change my tire and they showed up at 4:30 PM. By 5 PM we were back on the road and my wallet was much lighter. I never did hear back from Good Sam Roadside Assistance, no text, no call, nothing. Keep in mind this occurred in a major metro area on a weekday in the afternoon. HOW SAD!! I hope others who depend on Good Sam don't have my experience.

No ER service from good sam[emoticon][emoticon][emoticon]
Suggest you call GS customer service and ask to speak to a supervisor to resolve this issue. They should at least pay for the cost from the company you paid. Or offer you 1 free year of GS ER service.

Sorry this happened, and after being a member since 04!

Myself, I would not be interested in assistance memberships. I could not sit and wait for a tire change. A major break down, no choice, but can call private emergency service for quicker response. Just me though, others don't mind waiting.

Why would you suggest 1 year of free GS Er service.? They don't provide the service he paid for!!!! Another year of nothing is still nothing............

This is where AAA and Good Sam differ.

AAA will find a truck to tow you. It is up to you to decide where to be towed.

Good Sam will first attempt to locate a shop that will accept your vehicle. IF and WHEN they find that shop, they will then locate a tow truck to tow you to the shop. If they cannot find a shop willing to accept your vehicle, they will not send out a tow truck.

With both, if you need other than a small size wrecker (standard auto tow truck), it can take longer to get that tow truck to you because there are fewer available.

As for what happens now, GS will most likely agree to pay your out of pocket tow costs and will offer an additional year of service for free - it's their standard "compensation package".

Also.....The moon is made of green cheese..[emoticon]

All triple A (AAA) are not necessarily affiliated. Your "hometown"
AAA membership may not be good in some states/areas of the continental USA.
Some forum members have found out that "fact of life" the hard way.

The "wrecker" is a tow operator - not owned by AAA.
Many tow operators contract with several Motor Clubs (including AAA).
Providing roadside assistance may (or "is") secondary to more lucrative contracts - with state troopers, highway patrol, city/county police, etc.
If the tow operator is busy with the above - you're part of the "wwww" - world wide wait!

Simple solution - Benjamins and or a CC (credit card) is the best incentive for rapid & reliable service. Check with your insurance company to see if they provide any reimbursement...[emoticon]

Good Sam is NOT in the business to provide roadside assistance.

Good Sam IS in the the business to make money. Period.

Let that sink in.

Earlier this year I had to get a short tow and could not reach GS so called a local tow service and got it done. Later, I submitted a bill to GS with an explanation about the inability to get hold of them. They reimbursed me my cost. All simple and professional.

I don't want reimbursement, I'm upset they hung us out to dry. They could have at least called or texted me back to tell me they couldn't find someone to change our tire.

What I want is an emergency roadside service I can count on. Good Sam Raodside Assistance is the wrong choice.
