Went on a shakedown on our new to us Class C RV and managed to break the toilet loose from it's moorings on one side. A small piece of plastic broke off from what must be some sort of ring that held things together. I'd like to do the repairs myself to prevent the RV from sitting at some repair shop for months. Anyone ever deal with this? I'm afraid I'll have to drop the black tank to see what broke ...

Brand/model of toilet, a picture of what/where broke would be helpful. Toilet should be fastened to floor, and can be removed without taking black tank loose. You should be able to repair or replace the toilet yourself.

Possibly one of the mounting bolt head broke loose from the floor flange. You should be able to remove toilet and replace floor flange without dropping tank. While at it I would also replace tank gasket here the pipe enters the tank.

Typically the flange is glued to riser pipe and would not be an easy fix. There are other options but as Jerry stated to answer the question we need PICS.

The part that broke is a "closet flange". There are simple repair kits available at HD, Lowes, plumbing supply and other hardware stores.

Leave the flange alone. Get two toilet bolts that are a machine thread on one end and a lag screw on the other end. Lay out your holes and Pre drill The size of the solid portion of the lag. Screw lag end into your plywood floor and then set toilet and bolt down.

Common problem with easy fix.

They make a flange repair ring which covers the existing broken flange and uses screws into existing subfloor (provided the sub floor is in good condition) to attach without the need to cut out and replace the old flange.

Found HERE for $10.

See HERE on how to install this repair flange.

Now, do be aware, RV toilets use a foam rubber gasket, home toilets use a wax gasket. Since the repair goes over top of the old existing flange, you will need to use some sealant between the old flange and the repair flange. The foam gasket may or may not spread enough like wax gaskets do.

Would suggest also buy a new foam gasket, for good measure.

There are also "spanner" flange repair parts which slip under the good edges of your existing broken flange and also needs screwed into the subfloor..

Found HERE for around $14 (might have to buy two in your case).

Note, since your tank may be directly under the flange, be careful on the length of screws you use. Don't want to screw right into the top of the tank, that would be a far more expensive repair!
