I have crazy idea of buying a truck and a trailer and have someone drive it for me while I continue to work my regular job. I don't expect to get rich from it I just wanna make some extra money. I don't wanna be tied up in a large investment so talking with the bank the investment I want to make would put me at about $1200/month. Now with paying a driver, insurance, maintenance, etc. would there be money to be made. I would probably start off with a flat bed buy it at auction on wheel and I would drive it as well but I mostly want to keep other people in it.

Say wut? Maybe go check you blood sugar or something….

Maybe Ranni wants to buy your truck spectra?
And pay you to drive it for her??

I had a couple of friends that had them in the later 70s, we never called them highboys.

I think the first time I heard the term highboy was in the early 90s when one of my daughters was dating a kid that had one, they called it a highboy.

When I first got mine it didn't look as "lifted" as I remembered them years ago. That's why I didn't think it was a highboy. Live and learn. LOL

The 390 that came in my truck was out of a passenger car and so was the 410.
They both have front sump oil pans and the factory 360s had rear sump oil pans.

So I started looking for new ones and they don't exist so I asked in one of the forums and they told me they are
impossible to find.

I searched the internet with no luck. I did find one in Canada for $100 plus $43 shipping, but it was just the pan.

So as the last straw I called a local salvage yard and they had everything. Oil pan, pickup tube, main rod cap bolt
with stud to support the pickup tube, dipstick and dipstick tube. All for $75.

I also got a fan shroud, fan and fan clutch for another $25.
Yep, I hit the mother load. LOL

Everything is ready to replace the other oil pan.
I should get this done early next week.

Cool that you bought a new truck! You must be very happy. My dad was over the moon with happiness when he bought his first truck. I decided to give him a present and contacted ozark trail customer service, where they advised me what would be better to buy for his truck. He was very happy when he received a special knife, folding chairs and a table. Now we as a whole family have to go on a trip with him

Went to run an errand the other day and it wouldn't start.
It acted like the engine was seized.
I couldn't budge it with a braker bar so I figured it must be the starter motor.

Sure enough, the starter drive busted.

I bought it back in June from a small independent rebuilder.
I refuse to buy alternators and starters from the local parts store.

He took it in the back room and rebuilt it again for me. It sounds
great and spins the engine better than it did before.

So while I was there I bought a re-man alternator too.
The one on the truck is a rebuilt Westling and they are junk too so
its getting replaced too.

150 mile round trip. Well worth the drive.

Today was rotate the tires day. Being directional tread all I can do is go front to rear.
I have an appointment Wednesday morning to have the tire shop flip the
two rear tires around on the rims, re-balance them and trades sides.
I really didn't want directional tires but when I bought them that's
all there was to be had.

This was the tread pattern that I wanted but no one had them.
I'll get them next time.

I'm pleased with the color of the spark plugs too.
Pretty awesome that the jetting was right on right out of the box.

Don't ask me why but I love that the old truck is powered by Mercury. [emoticon]

I rotated my tires front to rear and made an appointment at a local tire shop to have the two rear tires flipped on their rims and moved to the opposite sides.
The tire guy came out a while later and told me that they weren't directional tires because they don't have an arrow on them pointing the rotation direction.
He's the guy that caused the tire manufactures to put rotation direction arrows on tires to begin with.
He's not smart enough to tell by the tread design but only by an arrow. [emoticon]
I said thanks and left.

While I was their they gave me a bid on winter tires for my car.
They quoted me a price on Mastercard tires made by Cooper.
I can buy the real Cooper tire for nearly $40/tire cheaper.

I seriously doubt that I'll be going back to that tire store.
