Yup got the truck - beautiful and love it. Reading here from you guys just thinking it won’t do the job. $70 grand is a hard hit if it won’t do the job!. Speaking with the dealer they tell me the pin weight of a 13,000 lb 5th wheel should be around 1800 lbs; but the specs on the trailer say 3300.

Pin weight is normally 20-25% of trailer weight, so I doubt it will be 1800lbs.

The way trucks are right now, you might come out ok selling it and buying again. 3500's are not more. Might be able to do an almost even swap.

Toy Haulers normally have a heavy pin. This is to offset the wt of toys behind the axles. A toy hauler often has a built in generator, plus large fresh water tank. Many will have on board fuel tank.

Look at your tires. Are the rears rated to 7,000 combined, maybe 7,500? If you add suspension support, for the springs, to level the truck, the limit will still be tires/wheels.

Like I said, a TH loaded to an actual wt of 14K will be close to limit. Will it break, fall apart towing a 15K TH? Probably not. A 3500 SRW not much better (likely same tires/wheels), so a DRW would be next step.

"IF" the ToyHauler is a triple axle the pin weight may be in the 15% range and possibly would not exceed the OP's RAWR. But the scales tell the tale!

From the 2022 brochure

Raptor 351:
Dry Weight13,373 lbs.
Payload Capacity3,627 lbs.
GVWR17,000 lbs.
Hitch Weight3,020 lbs.

Tandem axle

Note: The listed hitch weight typically assumes an empty unit, so expect it to go up when you load her up.

Pin weights can vary greatly on the same GVWR 5ers. We had a Jayco 14K GVWR with a 1700 pin due to the heavy rear bunk room running a 2500 and were in RAWR and tire load capacity. We traded for a Blue Ridge 14K GVWR with higher end components and a different layout with a pin of 2900 plus. Scaled it first trip, bought a dually.
The OP may have to go to a TT toy hauler if he doesn't want to up his truck game. The good news is that the OP is aware that weights matter unlike so many others just getting into the RV craze.

So being new to the fifth wheel community - haven’t bought one yet because I am concerned that my new truck, 2022 2500 4x4 short bed may not tow it safely. Although factory prepped for the hitch; research is showing that the gross weight of 10,000 pounds would be maxed out.

Considering the purchase of a toy hauler . What concerns me is the weight on the bed.
Truck will tow 20,000 pounds. Units looking at are the RAPTOR 351 or a Logan Toy Hauler.

Thank you for your input.

Well yes, it will PULL up to 20,000#, the issue is CARRYING the pin weight associated with RV 5er weight. The 20,000# pull capacity is based on pulling a flatbed goose-neck trailer loaded with water tanks and the load adjusted to a pin weight within the capacity of the truck model.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Well don't know how long you have had the truck, but you could consider seeing what kind of deal you could come to. The big issue for you at this time is the lack of stock. The issue with the numbers is many look at payload as how much pin it can carry. Payload is the total of everything added to the TV, including the pin of the 5er. You really are in DRW territory.

The cost difference between a 2500 and 3500 is pretty small, so just get a 3500 and have done with it! :-)
