I'm 80+ year old and have carried a pocket knife since I was 10-11 years old when my grand dad gave me his well worn two blade Barlow...2" and 3" blade. I still have the old knife and keep it in my gun safe with other old "stuff".
My current knife is a Case 3 blade with the two shortest blades broken off. It still has the long one (2").
Like most folks that carry a pocket knife its used as a wire cutter or stripper...screw driver... rust and paint scraper....small game skinner/etc. Its always with me in my left pocket other than flying or going into gov buildings.

I was born in 1973 and grew up in Southern NJ. No one carried a knife. Now that we live in GA, it seems most men I know carry a pocket knife. I sometimes carry a Leatherman with a knife on it, but not all the time. My soon to be 19 year old son does like to carry a pocket knife.

They're still popular. DH works at a summer camp and pocket knives make up a large percentage of lost-and-found items. I carry one too although not 100% of the time.

I have carried a pen knife since childhood.
Hard and fast rule in our family,"never leave the house without a way to make fire and a knife!"
I remember my great grandfather giving me the knife and the lecture when I was about 8.

I got my first knife when I was in Cub Scouts. I was never good at any of the major sports like baseball, basketball of football but was very good at pull the peg or as some call Mumbley-peg. I would play for hrs and never lost a game. The loser had to pull the peg out of the ground with his teeth. Anyone remember that game. The other game we played was stretch and chicken, best played with shoes and not sneakers. I still carry a folding knife to cut fishing line, clean fish, strip wire, clean off corrosion, open those foil seals that my fingers can't grip anymore.

When I was in the Marine Air Wing, everyone carried a TL 29 knife. It ha a single knife blade ande a screwdriver blade. The screwdriver blade was only for slotted screws. Therefore the knife blade seemed to always have a broken tip from being used as a Philips screwdriver.

I think that every self-respecting man should have a knife for every occasion. From an ordinary pocket multitool to a full-fledged hunting knife.

A credit card knife in my wallet always.

I carry a folding blade (or two) as EDC. A nice single folding blade for 'dress-up occasions'. A multitool for other general purpose errands. Sometimes 2, as one does not have a folding pliers, but I can open everything with one hand.
The blade of the multitools do not have good ergonomics. They do not fit my hand well and using them as a cutting blade is awkward. So sometimes I carry a multitool and a 4" folding blade that is comfortable in my hand and can control it better for delicate work.

A fishing knife as part of my tackle box.

A previous life as a firefighter I carried a 4" OTF switchblade. I could open it with one hand while wearing gloves. Don't carry it anymore with the knife laws in California. Used to have a blet buckle knife too, but no longer wear it. Again, knife laws even though it is technically legal.

I am well knifed.

been carrying a pocket knife all my life. Many daily uses. Few years ago heard of a terrible story about a child who got their shoelaces caught in an escalator step. All I could think was know one around had a darn pocket knife to free the kid before they were seriously injured. For those who freak out about carrying a knife - its just a tool
