It's cheaper, but more importanly there is no dripping or spilling.
I was excited when I learned about the possibility of being able to pump. I live in a Houston suburb.
Did a search and the nearest station with DEF at the pumps is about 20 miles from where I live. There are only 3 within a 50 mile radius.

I think I have only ever seen one DEF pump at a truck stop. There are none at regular stations anywhere near where I live.

This spout is the one to get. It doesn't leak and doesn't require futzing with orientation or such. While it is a Motocraft product it is not limited to just Fords. All trucks use the same filler so it works regardless of your truck brand. Here is a link to the Amazon listing Clicky

Thanks for the suggestion and the link, @Carl_N_Susan.
It should be noted that the link provided is malformed, however. This should fix it: Fixed clicky

OK, so now you've used your fancy nozzle and emptied a box of DEF into the truck. Now what? Wipe that nozzle down with paper towels and put it back in a Ziploc bag that stays, where, in the glove box?
This is like bringing your own custom straw to McDonald's....
It's that big of a deal to hold the box the right way?

You can't hold it the right way with the hose that comes in the box That's the whole point of the post.

My GMC has the DEF intake under the hood.....I don't even mess with the DEF Jug's spout. I take it off, use a flexable funnel (has a long tube). Wife holds funnel and I pour. Works great and she doesn't mind helping out. I do have to stand on a small stool, which we carry in the truck.....we also need to use the stool to reach lock/unlock our hitch.

Once from the jug, it's been bulk from the pump ever since that first time!

Jugs are as hard as you make them to be. The Ford nozzle pictured works well but once used be darn sure to rise it out thoroughly.
