Has anyone installed the new stairs they have, for 5th/wheels to replace the old ones. I saw them at an R V Show last week. They seem very easy to install.

There's several different brands and models. Which ones are you referring too? You're a bit vague.

If your talking about the "Solid Step" I wouldn't have them, RV came with them it would be a deal breaker. They fold inside so any debris, mud, water, snow or ice goes inside. They do make a mat to catch it all inside. Then there's the space issue can't open in parking spaces they hang over to the next spot. Try opening in a storage area with another right next to you, how do you load for travel without taking it from the storage?

I agree ^^^ too many drawbacks. I already have good folding steps and a handrail. Craig

Our current trailer came with the Solid Step….I’ll agree with most of this and not sure I’d want one again. OP may be referring to the “accordion style” Torklift or similar though…those look like they might be better than solid step.

The steps are like anything else... until you had them, you can't compare..
I went from the old steel, fold out steps.... to Aluminum fold out, to Torklift steps, to the Morryde fold out steps....
The last, Morryde are just awesome in my eyes... Been using them for 8 years or so...... I keep a hand/wisk broom and or a towel in the compartment next to the door and never had an issue...
In my 8 years, I have NOT had to move my RV because I couldn't fold out my steps...
NOW... IF you store your rV in a confined storage facility, you MAY have an issue while it is in storage...
I look at them like Dualpane window, slide toppers, Ford/Chevy/Ram.....

When I installed 6 point levelers on our Landmark, the steps had to go, they were in the way of the center jack. I installed MORyde Step above. Despite the negatives that are mentioned above, we love them. Yes you need to take extra care in cleaning them before storing them, but the stability and safety is well worth it

I've come to the conclusion that the Mor Ryde step have become so popular. Because they eliminate the stair box in the building process.
THe steps have a debris issue,they block the door way,and cannot be deployed in tight spaces.
But overall by eliminating the stair box the units are easier to build.
The steps can be a last minute attachement vs. being part of the frame assembly.
It allows the door to positioned almost anywhere which creates more floorplan flexibility. It allows similiar floor plans to share more construction techniques.
In the end they have become popular not because they are good for the consumer, but because they are good for mass production and the RV builders.

Yes, they introduce a bit of dirt when you fold them in but they are bigger and more stable than the old style. Particularly for some of the really tall 5th wheels, the 3-4 step old style felt like a diving board and I never trusted putting my full weight on the bottom step as it's cantilevered out so far.
Of course, with our current TT, we only have the 2 step version, so even in fairly tight parking, we can open them...but really, when we are in a parking lot, we are typically out away from anyone else, so folding out the steps isn't a big issue. But we have friends with the 4 step version and really like them for better access.

Hate 'em, hate 'em, hate 'em. They have to be adjusted for almost every time they are deployed. We have had to move the trailer because the ground was too close to the trailer, and we couldn't shorten them enough to use them. Luckily we have a toyhauler with the second door which doesn't have the solid steps. Otherwise we wouldn't be able to get into our trailer when it's in storage.
I wish the guy that thought those up had mine in his "basement".
