We are heading to our place in Arkansas tomorrow & its 330 miles. We plan on 10 days there then head home. I'll feal the pain and I need to go back at least 2 more trips to finish my project.
I haven't decided yet what price is too steep. $6 bucks or better may be the line in the sand.

My lifestyle has always been to live below my income. We have saved all of our lives so that we can enjoy our retirement.
We are going on vacation for the month of April. This trip will be about 4000 miles. We get about 10 mpg while towing. If gas prices go to $5.00, we will spend $600 more on gas than we did two years ago on a similar length trip.
$600 will not cause me to cancel my trip. If I was that short of cash, I would get a part time job and travel anyway. Gas at $6, I still will go. I bet the crowds will be a lot smaller.

We have decided to not make any reservations for this year. We will just play it by ear and if we have some extra one week and find an open site we will go but otherwise the trailer sits in the driveway this year. My truck gets 3 MPG when pulling the trailer so it will add up fast.

Fuel price for gas or diesel right now in south west British Columbia, is over $2.00 per litre. An American gallon is 3.78 L. Do the math and see what we are paying now!!

That doesn't sound right...3MPG and I would be taking the truck in to see what's wrong with it.

High gas prices are only part of the issue. Supply and availability are also major concerns. Last year certain areas in the East were without gas due to cyber attacks on the supply chain. It was short in duration but a trial run for the real deal? The world is a powder keg right now and with current events and response to those events something major could happen. I don't think I want to be more than one tank full away from home!

We are weeks away from turning the key on a 10-12K mile six month trip. We average 10MPG & first estimates were based on $5gal diesel.
The spike in fuel prices are not as terrifying to me as they are to most. I pay about $10gal for gas now here in Bermuda where my little car that does not get used much does four times better than the truck & the bike that I use the most does at least eight times better than the truck.
We are not getting any younger. We only get one chance to go around the block of life. We have had 14 good years & over 220,000 miles of RVing but we have not had our fill yet & RVing is our sole source of entertainment.
The situation in Ukraine is concerning, frightening even, but life can only be put on hold so long.

Towed to SoCal from NW WA last November with average of around $4.50 for diesel and will reverse the trip in April at who the heck knows what price. I am guessing at least $6, so at least a 33% increase in cost to head back North. Cost will go from $650 to $825 or HIGHER.

You have made a valid point!! We were tied down for 12 years taking care of parents with health issues. Thinking the remainder of our life could be spent RVing we find the latest issues with our nations energy policy very upsetting. We did get to make 4 nice trips to the West but it only solidified our desire to keep going. Now this lifestyle is questionable. I don't think a battery powered truck can pull my 31 fifth wheel and I'm not thinking petroleum is popular with current leadership. It's so hard to believe things have changed so much in just a year!!
