MY FW has controls that allow any of the 3 slides to remain closed. They are switches that close off the lines going to that particular slide. Yours may not have come that way, but since it exists on mine I can only assume you could install such a control. Probably just a rudimentary lever to close off that set of Hydro lines. One lever for each slide.

We had Bighorn that had hydraulic slides but there was a valve that had knobs that you could open and close individual slide. Easy to do, had no problem if I only wanted to open a certain slide.

There is a manifold with thumb-twist valves located in the passenger side propane tank compartment. It's not well documented, but you can control which slides go in/out first or not at all by manipulating the valves in this manifold.

Great advice for 5 years ago....demand is so strong now that dealers won't jump through hoops for somebody that MAY be a buyer.
Agree with your comment on slides though, my criteria is access to both fridge and bathroom with slides in.

Buy the rig and 2 weeks later do a dealers PDI is asking for unexpected delays (parts available, tech available, etc) and surprises. Insist on an alternative or move on.

This isn't a flaw.
You could note it in the PDI but it wouldn't be justification to reject the unit. (this assumes you have a sales contract already completed and signed)

Doug, our HH Champagne with 3 hydraulic slides, does have a switch for each room. I think I would much prefer this method to the one the OP had.

The ultimate solution seems to be adding two more pumps, two more switches and new hoses as needed.
Just money, right?
Not so much a really dumb design but actually a lower cost option.
And since we primarily shop by price....

Every trailer I've bought when semi interested I have them get the cart battery the lot has and have them run the slide(s) in and out so I can get a look at what I'm getting into.
Waiting until the PDI and finding some poor design things or a dent/scratch here and there is not good. By that time most buyers are so excited and determined to buy that they'll let some QC slip.
In all fairness to the OP it's really tough to do a walk through and catch 100% of all things wrong.
One thing I found is even when just cruising through dozens at an RV show if I'm in one thats caught my fancy I'll take the time to check out the bathroom for usability, the bedroom for walk around space and the slide in out access. You can pretty much tell just looking whether or not you have access with slides in when they're out.
Open and shut doors and drawers. Lots of surprises behind closed doors. We went in one TT once and open the closet in the rear and it was so shallow that you wouldn't be able to hang close in it even though it had a clothes rod. Really?
