Please, no political comments.

We have a 5,000 mile trip planned with reservations made, but we are reconsidering due to fuel prices. 60 cents per mile for diesel is pretty bad.

Guess it depends on your financial situation.
We have our summer travels to the mid west booked and have no plans to cancel. I mean a thousand bucks won't make or break us. What happened to all the money we saved in 2020 and 2021 when fuel prices plummeted due to Covid?
Just saying....

Probably will be a few less miles. We don't plan that far in advance for TC trips, so we'll see.

No cancellation. Heading to the Yukon for 3 weeks. 4000+ miles round trip. 2011 F350 6.7L diesel. Not happy about the diesel fuel costs (~$8.25/US gal) in BC/YN, but would be even less happy if we didn't go. Will be fuel and food smart, and will remind ourselves at the pumps that there aren't many truck camping summers left for these 65+ year old bones.

Being retired I'm going as one never can be sure how many more trips are in the cards. Probably more cooking in the camper.

I'm 80. I don't have time to wait for lower prices. I'm starting Ramblin' 2022 next week for 5 months! [emoticon]

Not really. However then again I don't travel all that far on my trips.

Given the two/three cost items: reservations, fuel and sometimes food/drink, how much extra costly do they have to be to avoid travel and/or abort/abandon a trip?

Reservations? IDK about the rest of you, but I'm booked through September and they are already paid for.

I mention "sometimes" food/drink as these are items that I'd be paying for anyway while staying home. While I may (or NOT!) get items on the road, eating in camp is surely less expensive then eating out.

Unless I'm staying for long periods at expensive places, fuel is almost always the single biggest expense of a trip. However where/what exactly is the 'tipping point'? %25, %50, %100, %200? I suppose here it depends on how much was budgeted in the first place before the magnitude of the % increases are applied.

Still traveling from Buffalo, NY to Fairbanks Alaska and lots of points in between. Traveling July, August, September, and back home sometime in October. We're estimating $10,000 in diesel fuel. Glad we took the money out of our investments before the market started to drop!
