As you all may or may not know, I upgraded to Disc brakes 3 fifth wheels ago and will not look back...
The upgrade can be expensive at first, but to me it was priceless..
Coming home from he beach Monday on I95 south of Philly, I was in the right lane, minding my own business and there was a car 2 in front of me that was obviously lost..
Once we got to the I95/476 split the lost car split the exit and STOPPED.. the car in front of me made a panic stop not knowing what the one in front was doing and not aware he had people behind him, and I had nowhere to go.
I stood on the brakes, closed my eyes and puckered for impact..
YUP, we stopped with a few inches to spare.... I will never go with out them.... NEVER..
There is nothing like the feeling of the trailer pulling you back when braking.....

I'm glad everything turned out ok. Seems to me more drivers are deciding that coming to a full and unnecessary stop in traffic lanes for whatever reasons is OK.

Good job...lucky you were alert, quick on the brakes, when the no where to go happens. Not only saved dollars but possible injury, vehicle damage with down time!

AWESOME!!!
I will NEVER own another drum brake trailer again. Changed my Boat out, what a difference. I hit the "Oh SH!T" slide coming out of the water and I have dependable brakes instantly. Surge and drum were a JOKE.

YUP..
My wife always comments that she can't see the difference ( does not toe it ) and no idea why we spent that money... After Monday, she told me that she agrees and we would have been in trouble without them...And she still has no idea how we stopped

I don’t think you can convince a lot of folks of the difference between disc , and drum . I’m sure a believer in disc now that I have it . I never dreamed there was such a difference, but there is . Same here will not have a fifth wheel without disc brakes .

FWIW, pretty much all of our new semis and trailers are coming thru with disks. I notice the biggest diff when it's raining. Disks stop a whole lot better whereas drums need to be "warmed up" to get water off them. My truck is a '16 Freightshaker w/ close to 600K miles and I want to say it still has orig bakes/rotors on it which is attributed to using the Jake and a lot of Hiway miles. And YES, if I stand on them, They will put you into the windshield.
Glad no-one was hurt FTG.

I agree that they are better. Maybe you were following too close to begin with?
