Got notice this morning that we should not show up for camping this Wednesday 6/15. Rain on snow event caused roads to blow out.

Looks like the north loop might be closed a long time, between roads washed out and bridges destroyed it could be several years to reopen.

Oh wow, guess we shouldn't count on our October reservations there.

It will not be several years! It will take awhile, but not that long.

It'll depend on what bridges were taken out, Yellowstone River bridge was slated to take 3 years to replace and that was with funding secured and a contractor lined up. I hope no major bridges were taken out but the flooding is the worst on record, beating the 1918 flood by many feet on several gauges. Seeing the Carbella Bridge washed away gives some idea of the conditions being faced in the area.

Lately the natural environment takes precedence when rebuilding. No more backfill with gravel or concrete walls to redirect streams away from roadways. Could take a few years just for the architects to study the best plan. Then wait for funding.

Scotty's Castle in DVNP might open in 2023 after a flood in 2015.

Certainly the undamaged areas will open sooner once traffic controls are in place to avoid hazard areas.
