Hello - First (big) road trip using my 2022 Palomino HS 8801 truck camper. Do you recommend filling, or at least putting some fresh water in prior to the trip? I'll be on the highway primarily and will likely be stopping at a campground with hookups but you never know. Figure best to have some in there. I know weight is always an issue. Also, with the black tank set up, should I run some water in there before adding the deodorant?
I'm sure I'll have a million other little questions.

We always fill the freshwater tank full before we leave. depends how much you're under you're weight cap. We usually put the deodorant in when we first use the toilet on the trip.

We always add some water to the fresh tank. Might want to wash some dishes or might boon dock somewhere and don't want to be without. We don't usually fill it full unless we know we will be boondocking for most of our evenings. I don't have a black tank in the TC (cassette toilet) but in my old RV we always put a few inches of water in the tank. You want to make sure #2 stays wet for later draining. Makes it much easier to dump.

How important is it (for you) to flush the toilet or use the sink while you're on the road? If important, place just enough water in the FW tank to flush the toilet (or use the sink) a time or two. If not, you may want to leave it empty to save weight (if you're concerned about weight). As for the black-tank deodorant, you might consider following any directions noted on the deodorant container. We always place enough water in the black tank to "cover" any eventualities---regardless whether we use deodorant or not.

Traveling without water usually works out, and then it doesn’t. I travel with a full fresh water tank and empty waste tanks whenever possible. If full water tanks cause a weight issue, you are seriously under trucked.

I always fill it to mitigate murphy's law.
We've had some campground water that tastes so bad it made the coffee taste terrible too. We've also shown up to campgrounds and they have the water off due to repairs.
Better to be caught with than without.

Why own an RV if you can't use it if you want to? Full tanks everytime..60 gallons.
'16 F550 CC, 4x4 with Link Ultraride air suspension, '18 AF 1150. Just so we can play with our snowmobiles, dirt bikes and fishing boat. And new 20' tag along...kayaks, bikes, mc's and extra water and food!!

We all have different styles of travel and different expectations. I rarely stay in any campgrounds with hookups. Unfortunately, in many areas water can be hard to find. I not only start out with a full water tank but try to keep it filled. My usual water consumption is about 3 gallons per day including a daily shower. If my wife is along the consumption is likely to be 5 gallons per day. I often just use a water jug and funnel to keep the tank full.
In addition to a full water tank, I have two propane tanks and try to fill up as soon as one empties. I stock some canned goods and staples in order to get by for at least a couple of weeks if there are no grocery stores available (or reasonably priced). Finally to extend my stays, I carry about 30 pairs of socks, underwear and T shirts. Also an extra set of sheets. That avoids those long hours at Laundromats.
Again, I have no idea what you mean by a "big trip". My usual camping trips cover about 15000 miles over about 4 months or so.
