I am trying to upload a photo into my signature. The file size, on disk, is 18.5kb, the width is 336 pixels wide by 100 pixels tall. It is a GIF file. Every time I try to upload it, I get an error message that says

A well documented problem, nothing gets done about it.

I gave up and I just insert a pic that I would have used anyway, but it can be a bit larger than what could go in the signature anyway

Try converting the GIF file to a JPG, GIFs can be problematic at times.

If you have Photoshop, it is easy to do, open with GIF photoshop, then select "save as" and select JPG then save..

Windows photoviewer might be able to do something similar.

Lots of free software that can make the conversion for you if you don't have photoshop or graphics editor handy.

Nope, my map is in JPG but comes up with the same error message.

Which forum "portal" are you using?

RV.net is main way into the forum, but there are other entry points which you can use to enter the same forum.. Your login to RV.net is good for all active portals. Note, each portal has a slight different "theme" or look but it is one in the same.

See HERE for a list of portals to try.

Sometimes a feature won't work on all portals and shifting to different portal sometimes gets around whatever the issue is temporarily. When in doubt, try different portal..

All I know is yrs ago I was able to insert my profile photo with no problems and that photo is larger in pixels than recommended and is even a bit larger in file size and that pix is still there.. But, that was back in 2010 when I did that.. I haven't tried to change or update my signature photo recently.

are you trying to upload directly from your PC/phone or from a third party online storage?

Some online storage (especially google drive) hides the actual file name when sharing and forces the use of Googles own viewer.. This doesn't play well with this forum.

Best to try uploading directly from your PC, not sure if it works from a phone either.

On edit..

Something else to consider, make sure the file name is short, 7 or 8 spaces tops, make sure file name contains only alpha/numerics (letters/numbers), absolutely no "special characters" like ! # $ % ect. Underscore like this _ should be OK. Basically follow simplified old school basic DOS level file naming. This gives you the best chance that the forum software will accept your photo.

I will try to answer all the comments.

I have tried it as a JPG with the same result.

I have tried RV.NET and the GoodSamClub.com (I will try the others)

The file name is “Merged.gif”

I am uploading it directly from my PC.

ON EDIT: I have tried every portal listed that is not marked "discontinued" and all failed with the same error message.

The forum's signature photo uploads have been broken for some time, and the issue has not been addressed by GS IT for a year.

If you currently have a signature photo, do "not" update it as you could loose the current photo while not having the ability to replace it.
