I hate thieves. I really do.

Had a break in of my truck some time since Friday. They tried very hard to steal the truck, but thankfully failed.

But wow did they ever make a mess of my steering column and ignition switch. They punched out the lock in the drivers door, then proceeded to rip apart the top of the column. After beating the snot out of the thing they gave up, and stole a few drills and my laser level, along with the key ring containing the keys to my toolboxes. Not sure what else they took, I'll likely notice something later.

I have a number of choice words in my mind, but I'd get myself banned if I printed them here. Use your imagination.

Cheezed off....

I can't get the key in there to start it, so looks like I fix it right there or have it towed for repairs. [emoticon][emoticon][emoticon]

Does anyone know if I have to pull the steering wheel to remove the housing? I will need to replace both that and the lock cylinder.

I'm ok taking stuff apart, but I don't like messing with the airbag

If it's insured, I'd call the insurance company. Right after I had the police report in my hand.

That really sucks Bob... I can symphonize too.. I've had a couple of vehicles broken into and the cost to fix them was always MORE than what the low lifes stole...

Every moral fiber in my body wants to trust people, but more and more these days, that's getting harder and harder to do..

Other bad thing is if they actually get caught, they'll be out of jail before the arrest reports are even filed...

And if you were armed and shot them at the time of the crime, you'd be the one in jail..

I can't help you on the airbag question, but I'd disconnect the battery before doing anything with the column... Ha, too bad it didn't go off on the low lifes while they were mangling the heck out that column.. Obvious rookies at the trade, so at least you still have the truck!

Good luck! Mitch

I agree with police report first. Then tow it to the dealer and contact insurance.
No insurance? I would still tow it to the dealer.
