OK. However I think the comparison might have a better balance if based on age. Not many 20+ year old EVs and yet plenty of 20+ year old gassers on the road mixed in with the burn statistics.

So if only vehicles of the same age were compared it would be a better look at what is the risk of spontaneous combustion.

I do make the assumption that older machinery has more problems. This assumption may not be valid.

A lot of EV fires seem to be from high speed single vehicle accidents. Again probably biased based on media reporting.

A year ago on the Escapees forum one member posted of an EV highway fire that burned for 4 hours before the FD could extinguish it. Said it was the battery. Evidently the FD had no foam on their trucks. Might have worked.

A search of their escapees' forum should find the post. Cheers

Earlier this year I saw a gasoline car that spontaneously started burning while traveling CA395 at Kramer junction. People emptied at least half dozen fire extinguishers that did nothing. I finished pumping fuel and left. No injuries.

Why wouldnt they? Are EVs also immune to damage from corrosion, vibration/harmonics, age/brittleness, battery cell shorts and everything else an ICE would be subject to except leaking flammable or combustible liquids?
