All this dialogue on santitizing your water tank gets me to thinking. Due some physical issues, we have not taken our RV out in a while (several months). I have drained my RV water tank twice . I have put 1/4 cup of bleach in it every time I refill it. So my question is: How do yall sanitize you water storage tank. The other question when hooked up to shore facilities i.e. potable water bib. does that water go directly into your water storage tank then to your water faucets or does shore water stay in pipes then go to the faucets in or out of the RV?

For treated city water no need to do anything. Otherwise for several months add bleach at the beginning only, when leaving drain, refill unless to much taste then drain and refill.

Some hose bibs fill the tank, some don't. Check your owners manual.

A quarter cup of bleach may well do the job…depending on the overall capacity of the fresh water tank. Four ounces of bleach treats about 25 gallons of fresh water capacity. Bleach is your friend!

Sanitize not only the fresh water tank but the fresh water lines to the kitchen sink, bathroom sink, shower and, yes, the toilet.

Just filled the tank(s) for 100gals total, in prep for a possible evacuation due to a fire. Between the 2, I added 1.5 oz of 6% bleach (unscented). Well water from my property, run thru a filter in pump house, then another (blue) filter at the end of the hose.

Per NFPA 1192 Standard on RVs, use 1/4 cup bleach per 15 gal of water (50 ppm ratio). So for a 90 gal RV water tank, you would use 1 1/2 cups of bleach. Run the bleached water throughout the RV plumbing, let it stand for 4 hours, then thoroughly flush with fresh water. For a stronger dose (100 ppm), you would use 1/2 cup of bleach per 15 gal water.

If you don't like using bleach, then you can sanitize your tank with Purogene

On the other hand, if you want to sanitize the water, and not the water tank, then you're talking about adding drops of bleach. Here are the EPA's Recommendations.
