What others done with this dilemma?
Spend more money than he was planning.
Unless the trailer is tiny, tiny and super light tongue weight...36" out is massive for 2" only.
Super hitch is where just about everyone ends up...even those of us that weld and fabricate.
I would think the class three hitch would be a problem as well. I do not think it's designed for that kind of up and down tork.

Baja Man,
I have a custom overlap welded extension that was custom made by an RV Lance dealer so I could tow my boat with the camper on. He asked what type of boat I had, as tongue and tow ratings are reduced with the extension.
Originally the Dodge was Class III but I upgraded to Class IV when I towed horse trailers without the camper a few years ago.
The first tube goes in the truck receiver and the other piece is welded onto that piece with quite an overlap and just clears the rear bumper of the camper. My hitch then plugs into this end with the proper drop to tow level. Test your tongue weight of the boat.( My 18 foot bow rider is under 100 lbs). A simple wiring extension is used. I do reinforce the connection with taught safety chains and inspect before each use. Been using for 24 years and stored in a dry garage.
A bonus of the extension is I usually remove the camper at the camp site and leave the extension on the truck when launching, which allows no rear wheel submersion on even shallow entry ramps.

This is an example of my setup. Class 5 hitch 41" stinger. Cinched down to take out the extra movement.

No need for the extension to reach from inside the receiver to the back of the bumper. I use an 18” extension with an extended ball mount to pull a cargo trailer behind a 9.5’ camper. With a boat trailer you will likely not even need the extended ball mount.

Pontoon boat is 3500# with approx. 350# of TW.
We decided on the Torklift Super Hitch and Super Truss 36".
The reason we considered the 36" extension on a 2" receiver, is because that was what was on the previous owner's truck which had this camper on it. It was not a Super Hitch. He towed a 2 horse trailer for many years. I suspected it may not be correct because of the distance between the hitch ball and the fulcrum point .....
Not knowing what was correct and safe, is why I came to this site to ask.
YES, Grit Dog, I will be helping my friend with this project. Not sure why you thought I shouldn't?
Now, to see how many holes line up between old hitch and new hitch. Old has 3 bolts each side and new has 5.
Thanks for the assistance!

Good choice on the receiver but I think you may come to find out that the extension is going to be at least 12" too long. Hopefully they will let you trade down to the shorter one.

Curious to how much weight the Supertruss adds with the extension over stock hitch? (and therefore decreases your "legal" camper carrying capacity?)
it must be significant.
