It's hard to be certain from those photos, but it looks like your gutter might be leaking and causing a rust stain. Can you hit it with a garden hose and see if it drips or drains in that spot?

It looks like a joint in the trim just to the left of the stains. My guess is that water is getting in and rusting the screws.

^While we are just guessing, that is a good guess! Those screws that hold trim, gutters, or many attachments rust easily. unless sealed well.

It also looks like there are 3 places in the insert trim of the gutter where its spline is pulling out of the channel.

tourusa, how long have you been in AZ? After being here 20 years, looks like AZ. dust that has settled on roof, etc. When it gets damp, it tends to do what I see in the pictures. Rain can cause it but if enough rain it generally just runs off or collects in numerous places. Reminds me of weak coffee or weak hot chocolate. Have you been up on the roof to check out accumulation of dust?

The only way of knowing is to get up there and do a close inspection. Anything else is just speculation.
