Recommendations for your favorite campgrounds in this area? We generally prefer State Parks, county parks, COE campgrounds. We like some hiking, wildlife viewing, scenic drives, looking at water, a bit of kayaking and maybe bicycling. Historic sites nearby are a plus.

We stayed at Pedernales Falls state park. Loved it! Highly recommended.

There are a couple of COE cg on Canyon Lake, north pf San Antonio and east of Fredericksburg. But I've heard that SP is good too. We visited Fredericksburg from one of those COE CG.

Pedernales Falls as mentioned. Guadalupe River State Park is another good one. Canyon Lake Cranes Mill, Canyon Park and Jacobs Creek are COE. Never camped at the latter 3 but they have mostly good reviews. For historic sites, probably closer to Fredericksburg is better. Johnson City, LBJ Park, WW2 museum in Fredericksburg and others I'm probably forgetting. There are also hundreds of private campgrounds in the Hill Country. Just depends on preference.

Wonderful park. If wadding or kayaking allways keep a watchful eye on the weather as a big thunderstorm up yiver swells the Perdanales really quick.

Depending when you go, DO make the Willow City loop if in the spring. The wild flower fields are unbelievable.
Our 2351D Phoenix Cruiser, Jack, has turned us from campers into RVers and loving it!
