I’m never one to give much credence to anecdotal statements about what is selling or what isn’t. As I am generally interested, I’d love to see real sales numbers of what the breakdown is of diesel vs gas in HD trucks (as well as 2500 vs 3500 sales). I know you used to be able to find that, but I haven’t seen it in a while.

The truck that they bought is a pretty truck. But I really can’t see buying a DRW with a gasser. I hope they are happy with their purchase. I wouldn’t be.

Ha, right? Regardless of the resale market, good diesels will still bring more and sell better.
Now take the biggest fanciest truck you can buy and give it the lowest powered engine (yes i know ford makes a lesser gasser too) and see what happens to resale….

Fine if you’re one of those “keep ‘em til the wheels fall off” people, but that dude will take the biggest bath in history when his flavor of the day changes again in the near future!

Sooo many reasons to require a couple economics classes for everyone in high school and this idiocy is only one of them. Lol

I see a lot of Ram 4500/5500 Ram Hemi powered trucks. Just seen a fairly new Ram 4500 flat bed with a welder on the back with a Hemi badge on the fender just a few minutes ago. A few years ago Ram HD's were essentially all Cummins powered, but I've seen this trend towards gas for a few years now.

Which leads to the next question. Since there rumors that the Hemi is going out to the pasture what gas engine will Ram utilize? Gas powered Cummins that soon will be released?

Cummins is developing a 6.7 gas engine and Ford designed and released a big block 7.3 for a reason.

Wish them good luck with their cams in those Hemi's in service trucks if they leave them idling for hours at a time.

No gasser goes down a step mountain with a heavy load like a diesel with an exhaust brake.

It's been awhile since we've had a good ol'-fashioned brouhaha about gas vs. diesel... been wasting too much time arguing about electric trucks! [emoticon]

You got that right... A lot of time was wasted about EV trucks that can't tow any decent distance.

When was gas not available? I've had a drivers license since the 1980's, never had an issue where there wasn't gas available.

Also, it's been at least a couple decades since diesel was cheaper than gas per gallon. The last year or so, it's been more than enough to cover any MPG improvements.

I don't chime in on diesel vs gas. I personally don't see a need for ME to pony up another $10k for a diesel. My '22 F-250 Supercrew is quite nice with the 7.3. For those comparing peak torque 6.6 v 7.3 you may want to see when that torque curve comes in. About 1000 rpm for the Ford and about 4k rpm for the 6.6 to reach the same number. The 7.3 is a great combo with the 10 spd and has gotten about 20 mpg on decent highway, about 15 average. Around town and idling in 4 wd about 12-13, and 10-11 towing my 8000lb trailer. I'm very happy with it so far.

I will never forget my shock the first day I took my 855 CID diesel to work to replace the 427 GMC spark plug motor. Everybody I worked with was running diesel, so I expected to climb hills faster. What surprised me was the lack of compression braking.
I would still like to see side by each comparison, equal weights, displacement, gears, and wind resistance, diesel with exhaust brake to closed throttle on gas engine.

I think that the diesel/gas ratio in 2500 and 3500 trucks is going to be skewed by the number of municipality gas trucks that are sold.

Well we had gas rationing in the 70’s, that was not fun.
As to gas and diesel prices, here in the PNW we have seen diesel lower than gas within the last 18 months.

I suspect the 11.3 average MPG figure on Fuelly for the 7.3 in a Super Duty is a more realistic expectation most folks should have. The 10 speed certainly helps which is why it doesn't average single digits. I think my 2015 Cummins overall MPG average over 100k miles is about 15. A big gasser won't do as well as it regardless of the transmission.
