IMO, this isn't necessarily an "either/or" materials issue. There are many other factors which will slowly play out as the facts (from more failed engines, not RV.net comments) present themselves. There is some evidence that the failing engines have spent a lot of time at idle where the oil pressure is very low compared to normal driving. Extreme pressure wear additives in oil have also recently changed. The camshafts and roller lifters are one of the most highly stressed friction points in internal combustion engines which is where the failures occur. Let's see where the EVIDENCE leads us.

That is if any evidence, other than a few yewboob videos, ever comes to light.

After spending 5 years in training, serving a 6 month apprenticeship and then WORKING at a Ford dealer for several years, often DIRECTLY with the Ford Factory Warranty Claims Representatives, (granted, it was years ago) I can offer a little direct experience here. (something YOU don't have) I've seen several "yewboob" (your words, not mine) videos showing major camshaft/lifter damage on the 7.3. The technicians said that when the Ford Factory Warranty Claims Service People were notified, there was a new palletized 7.3 liter long block ($$$$$$$$) DELIVERED (from Ford Factory Warranty Claims) to their shop, . . . THE NEXT DAY. (not the only one) Think about that!

Let's see how this plays out. The internet "neener neener" group isn't helpful at all.

Sure am glad I got the lifetime powertrain warranty with mine. I must confess that it is a bit noisier than I’d like on cold starts.

How many other independent videos have you seen? How many engines are actually affected? It just seems everyone is so quick anymore to start shouting "The sky is falling", with so little evidence actually on hand. This whole thread based on one yewboob video, with no actual hard evidence of what caused the problem: oil, negligence, oil pump partial failure, oil filter failure. But now, all of a sudden the engine gets a reputation for failures.

I guess part of my problem is that all these yewboob video creators will do almost anything to drive up their subscriptions, and viewing numbers. Hearst would be thrilled. I, for one, will wait until there's real facts to back up the videos. And since I'm a Ram owner, it doesn't affect me anyway. [emoticon]

Do you expect these real facts to come from Ford? Do you expect Ford to voluntarily admit that there is a 7.3 issue.
Do you doubt the validity of the videos?
Unless Ford officially addresses the topic the only info you will get is from individual owners and video makers.
Silence from Ford speaks volumes.

I bought a 7.3, and hope it holds together. One thing I have heard is that many of these that failing are in ambulance/wrecker service and have high idle hours. I'm guessing the low RPM doesn't supply enough oil.
Sounds very similar to the issues Ram's 6.4 has had.

If this is the issue it will not take long to program something to speed up the idle to get oil pressure.
Back in the day Ford had engine that ran fine, but had low oil pressure at idle. I know of 1 tow company that added aftermarket cruise control, but put pickup on flywheel instead of driveline.
Change in software should fix if that is problem. Of course at idle normally getting 0 MPG, so more gallons of gas used at idle would hurt, so might change oil pump.

Since I'm still waiting on Ford to come clean on the 6.0 PSD debacle or even own up to the fuel system warranty claim denials. Does anyone rember member Ricatic's story?
I will wait for Ford to announce that the 7.3 Godzilla may have a problem. Because I know I can count on Ford to own up to their mistakes!

It's a legitimate response since Lantley will be waiting for Ford to announce they have a problem and that must mean he's still waiting for GM and Ram to announce their problems as well, but never seen him say that. Just want to clarify this for our audience.

Still waiting for Ram corporate management to announce their "Towingate" changes with root causes.
