Planning an RV trip to Washington State Mount Rainier National Park in mid September for a week plus. I have a 34 foot 5th wheel and would like to have hook-ups, at least water and electricity, with a dump station in campground. Need 50 feet for the RV and truck connected. We are looking for a respectable, safe place and a quiet park to take the wife with a small westie pup. County parks would be fine also.

Plan on doing hiking in forest with and without the dog. Looking for an RV site where you would wamt to come back to year after year.

Best to look outside the Park. Sept is a good month. West of the Park there are some RV places on Route 7.

When we need hookups near Rainier, this is where we go:

Mounthaven RV

It is very near the park entrance. The folks who run it are great -- very accommodating and friendly.

PS -- ask for a spot in the back, further away from the road. There is some minor traffic noise during the day. The nights are very quiet.

Another vote for Mounthaven, which is a mile from the Nisqually Gate. This place is made even better if you have a no-charge senior pass to get into the park which facilitates numerous day trips. The drive up the mountain next to the Nisqually Lahar is particularly pretty. One downside is Mounthaven has a lot of shade and may seem gloomy if raining, and slow to dry out. We are over 50 feet combined and had no problem.

Many more options if you are willing to boondock.
