What the ....
They are recalling over a million sledgehammers because the head might fly off. It has happened over 200 times.

The hammer was probably the first tool made by man. A stick, a rock, leather strips and it's done.

It boggles the mind that anybody could screw that up on such a massive scale. They probably cut corners to save a nickel on each, who knows?

I checked my little 5 pound short handled one that I use for driving stakes for my antenna guy lines. The head is not loose, so I'm not too worried about it.

They probably tried to make the hammer look cooler, and sleeker by doing away with the wedge where the handle goes through the head. From what I could see, the handle doesn't go through the head like it should. Ya just can't fix stupid.

I have, over the years, replaced hammer handles, shortened handles, tightened the head by replacing wedges. If the head is over a pound, I pick it up in the store, can't see how to replace handle, put it back down

Do you need it if you can't fix it?

When I read this thread I keep thinking of all the classic Cartoons where the head came off either an axe or a sledge... Of course the poor creature (Often Wylie E Coyote) using it got the head.. On his head...

Funny in the cartoon
NOT A BIT FUNNY In real life. not one bit. Dangerous in fact. IF you have one of the recalled hammers.. Don't be Wylie E.
