Just got a new truck with the puck system. Bought a B&W Companion hitch that weighs about 230 pounds. What have those of you that have a similar hitch done to remove the hitch without straining your back.

I don't think that my B&W Companion hitch weighs 230 pounds. I remove the head unit and then remove the base. I can do this in about 5 minutes by myself and I'm 70 years old.

I'm 75 and do it exactly like this. Although I'm very careful with lifting the base. I keep it at waist level and lift it onto a stand I put beside the tailgate. Bending over to sit it on the floor is going to be an issue.

The Ram base is bigger and heavier than the Ford or Chevy.
I take the head off and then two person lift the base. I've done it by myself but that is asking for it...don't do that.
Now to do it by myself safely...I used a coupon and got a $100 engine hoist from Harbor freight. I still have to slide or walk it closer to the edge of the truck...then using one of these Link... I can lift the whole hitch out.
Some leave the hitch attached to the trailer and use the trailer to lift the hitch and then drive out from under the hitch while attached to trailer....then reverse the process to hook back up.

I installed an electric hoist in my garage and store the hitch on a 4 wheel dolly.

That is a great option if you have the room for that type of setup.
I did think of that too...In my case...I went with the engine hoist to lift my zero turn and also on my old trailer... to lift the portable generator to my truck bed or cargo rack on the back by myself.

The Ram puck Companion hitch easily weighs 230 lbs. It took two of us to transfer the base only from his truck to mine. I simply couldn't lift the base by myself.
Ours never comes out so not an issue, but if I had to remove it I would probably use an engine hoist also. I have a 5th wheel tailgate and I think it would work pretty well. But don't intend to find out.

First remove the head from the base. Now release the pucks and lift and slide the base to the edge of the tail gate. Stand on the ground at the tailgate and remove, EZ-PEE-ZEE.
