Hi all,
I am thinking of switching my residency over to Texas. If I own a vehicle, but the vehicle is garaged out of state, and never enters the state of TX, am I still required to get the safety inspection when transferring my plates over and getting the vehicle registered in TX?
If it is a requirement, will the refuse to give the plates until the inspection is done or is there a grace period? What happens if you never end up getting it? Will they send you a fine?
Also I know TX plans on eliminating the inspections all together, but this wont start until 2025.

If you can wait a couple of years they are phasing out inspections.

To get TX plates, the RV must go through and inspection first. Depending upon where in TX you register, it may need safety and smog.
