Paul: Are any of your folders (not drives) "shared?" You may want to check all the folder permissions on your system. Even with a dial-up connection, even if your drives aren't shared, if you have shared folders (especially within your C: drive), you can be hacked from the outside. If you're running Windows 2000 and XP, IIS (Internet Information Systems) is turned on, by default, which is a big security hole as far as I (and many others) am concerned. It is a service that can be turned off. Unless your system is a server, or you use Microsoft's .NET system for program development, it doesn't need to be running.

In any event, the forum itself, is not an active "download" system. I have however, in the past, seen forum member signatures with JAVA applets in them which, in my opinion, is a no-no. I haven't seen any lately (the ones that had them removed them).

Yes, even with a dial up connection you are receiveing attempted hacks frequently. If you had McAfee Firewall you would be amazed how often attempts are coming in. One so far today and five yesterday makes for a slow day, the script kiddies must be back in school.
