RE: Getting Divorced at 40 w/ 2 daughters aged 6 and 3

Sorry to hear that. My daughter is going through a similar experience. She moved out after he left on Christmas day. Once she was gone he moved back in with his twenty three year old girlfriend. Fourteen years down the drain.

RE: Does this sound okay? Lassen/Redwoods plans

I will add my two cents with another comment about manzanita CG. We stayed there a few years ago and totally enjoyed the camp.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my uncle earlier this week so I know what you are feeling.

RE: Looking for a place in northern Arizona

Trust me on this - been there many times and know the area well - you want to be at Trailer Village. You do NOT want to be in Williams as it is - like has been said - 50 miles away of nothing to see drive and then you have the hassle of getting thru the gate and hopefully finding parking. If you truly want to SEE the G C you need to be there when you can witness sunrises and sunsets and have tram transportation right from your rv area. x3 The shuttle system serves the CG area and you can take it to see various places rather than driving everywhere and trying to find parking. 100% correct.

My son left his TT unlocked beside his home. When he needed to get something out of it apparently some homeless person had been using to sleep in. It remains locked now.

RE: Death Valley

I've done it towing a 5er, it was, well, cool. Rain when we went over the pass that changed to snow while we were in Lone Pine. I don't recommend it, period. This forum has a former CalTrans employee that strongly does not recommend it. That retired caltrans employee would be me. May Temps in the valley will be hovering around one hundred degrees. I have seen hone hundred twenty degrees at nine in the morning. Mid seventies at night. It just isn't worth the risk. That road is hard on RV's hot brakes and overheating are common and I have seen them on fire. Help is a long way away.

RE: Grand Canyon Trip

If you have the time available try to see both the north and south rims. They are totally different. You do not get the expansive vistas at the north rim but it is not as crowded either. We stayed at Jacobs lake for north rim because we could not get reservations in the park. There are also large buffalo herds on the way into the park. One of the most awesome views of the canyon is from the air. If time and money permit take one of the flights around the canyon. We chose the smaller single engine Cessna's for this.

RE: Reno Area RV Parks?

We also like Gold ranch. It is away from the hustle and bustle of the city in a more rural setting. Close to town. We also have used Grand Sierra resort. It was very nice as well. There are many thing to see in the area. The national automobile museum is interesting. Virginia city for an old west mining town. Touristy but fun and a number of historic sites to see. You can also take a train ride there. In Carson City there is the state capitol, The museum which is in the old mint building, and the state railroad museum. Lake Tahoe is an easy and scenic drive.

RE: Grand Canyon Trip

We stay in trailer village when we are there. We tried some of the camps outside the park. Trailer village is on the shuttle route and close to the shopping area. You can watch the sunset over the canyon and sunrise if you are so inclined. If you are tired just head back to camp for a nap and head out again. Just my opinion.

RE: California Coast Suggestions?

Roaring camp railroad is fun. Ride a steam train through the redwoods. It is just north of Santa Cruz.

RE: Las Vegas to South Lake Tahoe

95 to Shurz through Yerington to 395 to 50 to Tahoe 95 is a good road. Not exciting but an easy drive.

RE: If I won the mega-millions lottery I would...

Every time we go to visit our daughter we go through Coburg Or. Right by the Marathon plant. There are always a few high dollar MH's out front. I could live with it.

RE: Through Death Valley?

As a twenty year veteran of Caltrans in that area I don't recommend 190. Yes it is doable. It is a white knuckle drive. There have been vehicles go over the edge that were not found for years and I have seen MH's merrily burning along the route from overheating on the grades. I am sure some of the good folks here will disagree with me.

TV shows were so much better back in those days. I rarely turn it on now.

RE: A blast from the past

I was two in 1949. I don't remember it either. I do remember later on sitting on my grandfathers lap while the Lone Ranger was on. A fond memory.

If you catch one of those Leprechauns they are good on the BBQ. They are magically delicious.

RE: Neveda

I-80 is more of a put the hammer down and make miles. Elko for basque food and the ruby mountains. Hwy 50 is a much nicer drive. Billed as Americas loneliest hwy but that's mostly Chamber of commerce hype to get the tourists. There is Great Basin National park. Take the cave tour. It is outstanding. The Nevada Northern railroad in Ely. and several small mining towns. Fort Churchhill is just a few miles south of Silver Springs.
