RE: Tahoe National Forest

Fireman, If you live in Fallon, next time you go to Reno for something make the drive to Truckee and check it out for yourself. There are also campgrounds along SR 89 north of Truckee along the river, at Donner Lake state park, Boca, Stampede, Prosser, and just over the summit at Cisco and Hampshire Rocks. There is even a very small campground at Tahoe City adjacent to the US Coast Guard facility. We probably should do that. It would make a nice outing. Wife just had surgery so it could be a few more weeks before she feels like a road trip.

Tahoe National Forest

Has any one stayed at Granite flat CG between Truckee and Lake Tahoe? We are curious if there was a dump station there and your overall thoughts on the Camp. Our son wants us to join him there this summer. I definitely can not stay there for two weeks without using my shower.

RE: Port Angeles WA

I'm guessing you are also taking a ferry over to Victoria, if not, you should X2 on victoria. It makes a fun day. Hurricane ridge is also a nice place to visit.

RE: rv campgrounds near grand canyon

We always stay at trailer village in the park. Once you are there no driving. Take the shuttle which stops at the campground. You don't want to miss sunset at the park. If you get tired it's easy to go back to your rig for a rest have lunch and head out again. We have stayed outside the park. Never again. You miss the whole national park experience.

RE: Hwy US 395

From Reno if you want to go up through Oregon you could take I-80 west to Emigrant Gap and pick up Hwy 20 which will take you to Hwy 101 near Willits, CA. Stay on 101 all through Oregon. It's an awesome drive and good for big rigs. X2 We have done this many times. I always enjoy the ride.

RE: Nevada's Hwy 80

Hwy 50 is my preferred route unless I am in a hurry to get somewhere. More scenic. Like has been said it is lonely at night. Go during the day so you can enjoy the ride. The old mining towns along the way are interesting to stop and visit. We like to stay at Bob Scott campground east of Austin. Only ten sites and the water may or may not be on but very scenic. Which ever way you go have fun and enjoy Nevada.

RE: campsite at Yosemite

Keep checking. you may stumble onto a cancellation. This has worked several times for me. The valley is my favorite pace to camp but that is the most popular.

RE: What makes RV'ing special to you?

once a year we get together with my son and grand kids for a camping trip. He has his own RV. We pick some spot to visit in the west. We visit national parks and other areas. Sit around a campfire making smores. A couple weeks with our son and his children is pretty special.

RE: eastern sierra 395 overnight needed

The Brown's Town RV Park/CG on the south side of Bishop was nice. Fuel up before you get anywhere near Lee Vining/Mono lake as they have some of the highest gas prices in the country. It gets a little better once you get down to Bishop and Lone Pine. :C Unless things have changed since I lived in Bishop (5 years ago), Browns town closes for the winter. Paiute palace also has a parking area for RV's. I don't think they charge. You just have tell them you are there. Thanks for the update. We were there in late August. Do you know when they reopen? :h Not sure when they open but They should be open for fishing opener in April. Browns hardware on wye road owns it. A call to them may answer your questions.

RE: Bodie State Historic Park

There are several campgrounds around twin lakes. There are also some campgrounds at Virginia lakes. June lakes loops has a few camps as well. There are also a few up 120. Our favorite is Oh! ridge in the June lakes loop.

RE: How's the weather been in Quartzsite?

They have weather in AK, SD, MT, WY, and ND. They don't have wx in CA, AZ, and NV. It s always sunshine and warm. LOL Must be a different part of NV than I live in. Cold and a few snow flurries today.
