Many of you and I have spoke about my desire for a new Clear Coat and my search for the provider and some of you wanted to know how it came out. I AM VERY PLEASED. It looks great! I had the striping repainted, as well as front and rear end-caps as well as bumbers then a new clear coat all over. The cost was reasonable and one of the best I could find. I went to Jake's RV Clear Coat in Tampa, FL. It is at the same exit as Lazy Days, only south. They knew my schedule and kept to my appointment in order to complete my unit in time for my weekend plans for Sea World.

The clear coat shines like the sun, its so slick that dirt seems to fall off. But the best part is that black streaks seem to be impossible.

While in Orlando this weekend I stayed at Tropical Palms RV Resort. Very Nice! If your headed that way it is a great park in a great location.

Dean

What is the difference between "clear coat" and "gel coat?"

Thanks ahead of time.

How much can I expect to pay to have my rig painted or a new clear coat applied?

Great news. Thanks for sharing the experience. I was waiting to hear from you. Send me an e-mail with some specifics if you have time. We're leaving in May and our first stop is the Tropical Palms Fun Resort in Orlando.
Congrats!!

Gel Coat us usually pigmented/tinted or clear final coat of fibreglas for fibreglas. Clear Coat is usually clear paint such as Imron clear, which is normally sprayed over a base coat pigmented of your choice. I used to tint the clear coat Imron and / or add gold or silver fleck to it for depth. Happy Motoring, Butch - Nancy Lake, Alaska

Gel-coat is the pure resin used in fiberglass. It can be tinted. The resin is sprayed into the mold and the fiberglass matte or chop is laid in and more resin is applied. Clear Coat is paint (lacquer, acrylic enamel, or any of the catalist paints) but without pigment. Clear coat paint jobs are usually cheaper and don't last as long because: the base coat or color coat is applied just enough to cover ( pigment cost money!!). Clear coats don't show wear ( oxidation) till they have burned thru ( UV rays) and then the color paint is so thin that it doesn't last either.
