Then you need to verify the part #'s! It should be printed somewhere on the backside of the belt. I bought new ones for our DP, then changed them out in our driveway, keeping the "old" ones for spares and leaving the new ones in place. That way I know I got the correct new ones and have good correctly sized, slightly worn spares stored under the bed. I got to change them in my driveway rather than alongside the road someplace also. Did this at about 21,000 or so.

I went to change the belt on my 2002. Found a listing at NAPA for a F-550. No listing for the F-53. Bought the belt and it didn't fit. I think it had something to do with the AC location. I was told to go to the Ford dealer...I looked all over my original belt but because it rides on both sides the number was gone. If I can get the Ford # I can cross it to a Goodyear or Gates. Haven't gone to the dealer yet to get the number but I know I won't be buying it there unless I absolutely have to. With 14,000 miles on mine it's not an emergency...yet.

DFord, thanks for pointing that out. The 5081100 would work on the application, HOWEVER, we have since added the 5081103, which is 1/4" longer, and closer to the actual O.E.M. belt.
I will make sure the website gets changed to reflect the better fit. Many times in the aftermarket, we can't do EXACT replacements due to consolidating belt sizes. We do however, make every attempt to get as close to O.E. as possible. Usually with serp drives using automatic belt tensioners, 1/4" is well within the range enabling the installation of a serp belt due to the geometry of the tensioner operating range.
You're also correct in that cogged belts operate cooler and flex better than non-cogged belts. I field test belts on taxis in Las Vegas. Now THAT'S a real test! I go there every 8 weeks to monitor them.

I work in Dayco engineering, and we make the original Ford P/N John Wayne has just suggested. The Ford P/N XC3E-8620-AB is 110.118" effective length. The 20-8763 is our internal manufacturing number. The DF on the belt indicates Dayco as the O.E.M. manufacturer.
The Dayco aftermarket replacement for this part would be 5081103. I would suggest trying this belt, which is our Polycog premium belt. It looks somewhat like the Gatorback. We had it in the marketplace about 10 years prior to GY however.

MoRambler,

I went to the Dayco website:
http://www.daycoproducts.com/daycoweb.nsf/Product_Poly_Cog?OpenForm

I clicked on the "Application Guide" tab and entered the Ford pn: XC3E-8620-AB and got this number: "5081100" as the replacement. Is the number you gave (5081103) a better match than the one listed on the webpage? I suppose the number of the belt you gave is slightly longer.

The Poly Cog is the same type of notched belt design as the Gatorback. I learned a long time ago the notched belts run cooler and last longer than the standard belts. I'll keep this information in my notebook for future reference. I see Advance Auto Parts carries the Dayco brand.

Thanks!
