We will be travelling I-40 East from California to Tennessee in about 3 weeks. Holding to about 300 miles a day, so looking for nice C.G.'s in/around Kingman,AZ, Grant,N.M., Amarillo,TX,Eastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Western Tennessee along our route, or 20-30 miles off highway. Anyone have a favorite to share, or ones to avoid? We pull a 40' 5'er with an HDT, about 65' overall.

Hi,

Just weat of Oaklahoma City is the city of Hinton, where Red Rock Canyon campground is located, and I really enjoyed it a lot. 405-542- 6344

They have 56 sites but only had 5 sewer sites. 56 W/E 30/20 amps. But that listing is 8 years old, and may have changed.

If you will be in Albuquerque around October 3, enjoy the hot air balloons - even if for only a little while. The RV parks near there will be full of people going to the event. There will be 750 balloons taking off all at once just after sunrise if the winds are clam. The field is located about 8 miles north of I40, take I25 north to Alameda, then west about 1.5 miles to a 200 acre dry camping area, or find a parking lot if you are just going for the day. Or view from a distance, there are so many, they will be easy to find.

Fred.

Here is one about five miles south of Memphis. We've stayed there several times.....large pull thru sites, wide access roads, great cable and wireless internet at the site, huge, clean bathrooms and showers.

Amarillo has a new park about 5 miles west of the city. It's called Oasis, and everything is paved and level.Very easy to hook up, and get out the next morning. Not very many people know the park is there so you won't need a reservation. They are on line.

Here's some suggestions:
Gallup-Grants area stay at USA RV Park--very nice
Amarillo stay at Amarillo Ranch RV Park--a limo will pick you up for dinner.
El Reno, OK has a nice park with a Mama Buffalo and baby.

Just stayed at these places a few days ago on a trip to the east.

Fort Amarillo RV Park is a nice park. First exit (62B I think) as you are entering Amarillo from the west, right behind Gander Mountain. All pull thrus with 50 amp. Something like $28 after discount. They give a 10% discount for almost every membership thing you can think of. But be careful as they have a large gift shop that may cost you more than your site! Near lots of restuarants and shopping.

In Arkansas; in western AR, close to Ft. Smith there's a KOA off of I-40 near Alma. In central AR there's a KOA near Little Rock off of I-40. Lastly, there's Petit Jean State Park in Morrilton AR.

This is strange. I just noticed that my link to the campground didn't attach. Here it is again.
